Tue 21 Nov 2006
On Saturday, November 11, the core members of the new church got together for an all-day retreat to do some planning, visioning, and organizing of the new church. Perhaps the most significant event of the day was the development of the name for the new church. We are now officially calling ourselves CrossRoads Church of Las Cruces!
In the next few weeks, we’ll be setting up all those nice things that you can only really have when you have a name — incorporation paperwork, non-profit status, websites, mailing addresses, etc. Our public website will be www.crossroadsplace.org. We also have the domain www.thechurchsite.org as our “internal” site for specific information about the various house churches within our organization. We want to get information out to people, but we also want to protect our privacy — especially as our leaders are working out of their homes, and our meeting places are also our living spaces.
Anyway, thanks for praying for the new church — remember the name:
CrossRoads Church of Las Cruces.

By way of further explanation. . .
The name “Crossroads” has two meanings. The first is descriptive of the place in life that many of us find ourselves in from time-to-time. For the unbeliever, it is that place where Jesus Christ has the opportunity to take us to new life, or where we can choose to continue to go our own way.
“Crossroads” also has connections to our hometown of Las Cruces, NM. There is some controversy as to the use of crosses in our city’s logo — some citizens advocate a more trans-literated interpretation of the “Cruces” name, meaning “Crossings” or “Crossroads,” leaving religion and crosses out of it altogether. We prefer to consider “Crossroads” to be those roads that lead to the cross — not that there are many ways to salvation, but that there are many different roads (circumstances) that lead people to Jesus.
