The new church is starting to gather some momentum — to “get its feet under it,” so to speak. We’re in the process of recruiting and evaluating leadership, both in people and in policy. We are striving to start with the strongest leaders possible. The leaders will define the church’s mission, will defend the church’s mission, and will reproduce to carry the church’s mission to the field. Those who desire to be leaders “desire a noble task” (1 Timothy 3:1). However, there is a test in the end. . .
The last thing we want is to start gathering large groups of people before we have the church’s vision and mission — and leadership structure — well defined. Moreover, we need to decide what things are “doctrine” — that is, those things which are distinct to us, but might be a little different from other true Christian churches; and those things which are “dogma” — that is, those things that are true of any Christian church, lest they even be Christian in the first place.
You are welcome to post your thoughts on what might constitute doctrine and dogma — these always make for a lively discussion. In the next month or so, we hope to have the details ironed out for the new church. We’ll be using scripture as our guide, and the Holy Spirit as our conscience. Yes, there will be a test indeed. . .

There are some great college age leaders involved with mpcc, use them.

Si. We intend to.

Look for leaders who understand the post-catholic or catholic population too. Maybe even an entire team post-catholics. (I am not saying that Catholics aren’t our brothers and sisters, just that there are a lot of people who are disassosiated from the Catholic church)

That’s been a big topic of discussion among our leadership — even before the new church was commissioned by MPCC. I’ll tell you what our biggest problem is right now, however. It is that (in general) men in our churches don’t know how to lead. We have lots of men with good ideas, and lots of men with that desire to be leaders. They’re just not quite there, yet. I’m looking for leaders of men — people who are already leading where they’re at. I’m also looking for men who understand the kinds of things you’re talking about — a heart for the lost, perhaps especially as it relates to the “post-catholic” culture in Las Cruces. I also need men who are at peace with the Body of Christ, not disgruntled or otherwise disqualified for leadership in Christ’s church because of unresolved conflict or the unfortunate sin of pride.
Bottom line, we need men who are called to this mission field, disciplined and committed to the task of making followers of Jesus. We find those, and all the rest will come in time.

what about women?

It’s not that women can’t lead, it is just that too often men don’t when they are supposed to. Our goal in leadership development is to get the men in the church to “get off their duffs” and stop being passive with the kingdom of God. That’s not something you need to worry about with women usually…
Moreover, we feel there is a sufficient Biblical mandate for male leadership in the Church. I know this is a sticky topic, but that’s our belief.
